Sensei Candace Rushton - Head Instructor
Candace has been training in Jiu-Jitsu since 1999 and instructing since 2001 She holds the rank of black belt. She competed and placed in severial Jiu-Jitsu tournaments, winning the title of Womens Lightweight North American Grappling Champion in 2000 & 2001. Candace was recognized as a positive female role model in martial arts in 2008 and is a member of the National Women's Martial Arts Federation.
Candace's passion for Jiu-Jitsu is what drives her to share her knowledge and technical skills with her students. Training is so much fun for her that you will often hear her giggling on the mat while grappling.
Candace has been working as a Home Visitor for Head Start since 1983. Her background in early childhood and human services has educated her to understanding developmental stages of children and has enhanced her natural ability to relate to people. Along with Candace's kindness and patience, she is able to find the strengths in everyone, creating an environment where all have a sence of importance and belonging.
Aside from Jiu Jitsu, Candace is a Reiki Master, enjoys the outdoors and loves spending time with her family.
Sensei Jacob Rushton - Assistant Head Instructor
Jacob received his Black belt in 2015 after many years of hard work and dedication. He is skilled in both no Gi and Gi technique. His personal favorite however is working with the Gi. His ability to control, position and submit an opponent with the Gi is ever evolving with precision. He believes in relying on ability and knowledge over force and strength. He welcomes students equally, with respect for their views and knowledge. He strongly believes in coaching for the student, not to the student
Jacob Rushton is a kind, calm and humble individual with unending patience and understanding. He is a graduate of The National Outdoor Leadership School, where he learned to lead people through extreme wilderness environments. He worked as an Emergency Medical Technician and counselor for Saint Vincent de Paul Center and Home for Children. He has also worked on the HMS Bounty, a square-rigged sailing ship, as a watch officer and ship medic. He is currently employed as a skilled craftsman specializing in custom home remodeling and repair.
All of these skills and experiences Jacob brings to the mat. He works well with children, always making them feel comfortable and proud of their achievements and abilities. He fosters their knowledge through positive feed back, understanding that children learn in a unique way.
Sensei Robin Dyer - Instructor
Robin has been at InnerStrengths since 2008 and has been coaching since 2010. She is currently ranked as a Black Belt in Jiu-Jitsu. She is a member of the National Women's Martial Arts Federation. She is trained in CPR and basic First Aid.
Robin is a Professional Civil Engineer with BS in Civil & Environmental Engineering obtained in 1988. She also has a BA in Psychology obtained in 1993.
Further, Robin is a Licensed Massage Therapist. Robin is a certified by the Freedom From Pain Institute as a Myoskeletal Alignment Therapist. She has Level 2 Certification in Thai Massage from East West Massage. She also has her Reiki Level 2 under Sensei Candace.
